Kathmandu, June 4: The National Association of Community Electricity Users-Nepal (NACEUN) has sought the guarantee of local governments and communities onboard while restructuring the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
In a press release issued on Thursday, Association chair Narayan Gyawali reminded that involvement of local governments and communities is imperative in NEA's shake-up. Local level's accountability counts much to enhance power supply system, mitigate leakage, and make effective the related services.
"Only active engagement of local government and community organizations help ensure swift and accountable delivery of services related to power," chair Gyawali said, adding that the Association has urged for the immediate withdrawal of the five percent VAT the government introduced on consumers for using over 50 units.
He also demanded a review of the electricity tariff, thereby making it scientific, practical and pro-people. Special incentive packages help boost electricity consumption in agriculture, irrigation, and industry, according to him.
Increasing domestic capacity of electricity consumption is equally urgent, according to chair Gyawali.(RSS)
