Remarkable improvement made in SEE result

BY OUR CORRESPONDENTS,Kathmandu, June 29: The results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) for the academic year 2024/25 have shown a remarkable improvement across various districts in Nepal. Several districts reported higher pass percentages and better GPA distributions than the previous year, with education offices crediting increased academic efforts and awareness.

In Bajura, the Education Development and Coordination Unit reported a noticeable improvement in student performance. Out of 2,216 students who appeared for the SEE, 1,199 passed. Though no students secured a perfect 4.0 GPA, 38 students scored between 3.6 and 4.0, while 262 scored between 3.2 and 3.6. Another 532 students fell in the 2.8 to 3.2 GPA range, and 351 scored between 2.4 and 2.8. Only 16 students scored below 2.4. 

According to our Baitadi correspondent, Gokarna Dayal, the district witnessed almost a doubling of its pass rate. While only 31per cent of students had passed the SEE in 2024, this year’s result showed a sharp rise to 52.29 per cent. Out of 4,307 students who took the exam, 2,012 passed. Despite the improvement, over 2,200 students failed, prompting education officials to emphasise the need for continued focus on academic support and preparation.

Rautahat correspondent, Prabin Kumar Sharma, informed that the district recorded a 71.20 per cent pass rate, with 6,602 students passing out of 9,273 examinees. According to the acting head of the Education Coordination Unit, Upendra Singh, two students secured a perfect 4.0 GPA. A total of 611 students scored between 3.61 and 4.0 GPA, 2,321 between 3.21 and 3.60, and 2,710 between 2.81 and 3.20. An additional 936 students scored in the 2.41 to 2.80 range, while only 24 students fell into the 2.0 to 2.40 GPA bracket.

Banke district recorded a 62.23 per cent pass rate, 7,921 students who took the exam passed, reported Siraj Khan, our Nepalgunj correspondent. Among them, only one student achieved a 4.0 GPA. The GPA distribution in Banke showed 642 students in the 3.61-4.0 range, 1,607 in the 3.21-3.60 range, and 1,498 in the 2.81-3.20 range. Additionally, 1,047 students scored between 2.41 and 2.80, and 135 students between 2.00 and 2.40. Of the 2,043 students who appeared for grade improvement exams, 1,043 passed, further contributing to the improved academic performance.

According to Arjun Kafle, Syangja correspondent, the district witnessed four students achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA, one from a public school and three from private institutions. Out of 3,733 students who sat for the exam, 2,516 passed. The GPA distribution included 324 students in the 3.60-4.0 range, 726 in the 3.20-3.60 range, 950 in the 2.80-3.20 range, 482 in the 2.40-2.80 range, and 34 in the 2.00-2.40 range. Moreover, 722 students out of 1,260 who sat for grade improvement exams successfully raised their scores. The overall pass rate in Syangja reached 67.40 per cent.

In Tanahun, approximately 63.90 per cent of students passed the SEE. Out of 4,845 examinees, 3,093 students were successful, informed Amar Raj Naharki. 

Four students secured a 4.0 GPA, while 895 scored between 3.60 and 4.0, 1,164 between 2.80 and 3.20, 602 between 2.40 and 2.80, and 25 between 2.00 and 2.40. The district has also seen a marked improvement in results compared to previous years.

According to Sher Bahadur Rai, in Okhaldhunga district, 2,035 students appeared for the SEE examination, out of which 1,651 students passed, resulting in a pass rate of 81.13 per cent. According to the Education Development and Coordination Unit, 384 students were non-graded. The GPA distribution showed 122 students scoring between 3.60 and 4.0, 547 between 3.20 and 3.60, and 641 students between 2.80 and 3.20. Similarly, 313 students scored between 2.40 and 2.80, while 28 students achieved a GPA between 2.00 and 2.40. The district’s performance has been marked as one of the strongest results this year.

Nawalpur correspondent, Bom Lal Giri, informed that in the district, out of 5,770 students, nine students achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA. According to Dipendra Shrestha, the head of the Education Development and Coordination Unit in Nawalpur, a total of 4,065 (70.45 per cent) students received a graded result. In terms of GPA distribution, 686 students scored between 3.60 and 4.0, 1,254 between 3.20 and 3.60, and 1,425 between 2.80 and 3.20. Likewise, 663 students scored between 2.40 and 2.80, and 28 students between 2.00 and 2.40. There were no students in the 1.60 to 2.00 GPA range, while 1,705 students, accounting for 29.55 per cent, were non-graded.

Overall, the SEE results of the year 2024/25 show an encouraging upward trend in Nepal’s secondary education performance. Across the nation, out of 438,896 students who appeared for the regular SEE, 48,177 students scored a GPA between 3.6 and 4.0, 81,355 students scored between 3.2 and 3.6, 99,124 students obtained between 2.8 and 3.2 GPAs, 48,479 students achieved GPAs between 2.4 and 2.8, 4126students scored between 2.0 and 2.4 and only eight students received GPAs between 1.6 and 2.0.
