Separate burn ward set up in Bheri Hospital

By Siraj Khan,Nepalgunj, May 22: Patients with severe burn injuries can now receive treatment easily at Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj thanks to the establishment of a dedicated burn ward.

For the first time, Bheri Hospital has started treating patients with serious burn injuries in a separate burn ward.

According to Dr. Nirajan Subedi, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, arrangement of a dedicated burn ward had made the treatment easier not only for patients from Banke and Bardiya districts but also for those from Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.

Dr. Subedi said that after the dedicated burn ward came into operation, the need to refer critical burn patients to Kathmandu or even India has now ended.

A few days ago, Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, officially inaugurated the new burn ward and a surgical wing at the hospital, marking the beginning of their services.

Immediately after the inauguration, the hospital launched a 6-bed burn ward and a 14-bed surgical wing in its new building.

Hospital spokesperson Dr. Sanket Kumar Risal said that the launch of the burn ward has greatly facilitated the treatment of severely burned patients.

He said that since the hospital serves as a referral centre for patients from western Nepal, the current six beds are insufficient and need to be increased. All beds have been fully occupied since the ward became operational, he added.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Subedi also said that in the past four months, the hospital has introduced several specialised services and achieved various improvements and accomplishments.

He shared that 13 new services have been added during this period, including a separate ward for sickle cell patients, installation of five new advanced surgical tables, the launch of the burn ward and surgical wing and the commencement of other services from the new building.

Dr. Subedi added, “Despite limited resources, we are working to expand services based on need. Our goal is to ensure that no patient has to return without receiving proper treatment.”

Similarly, Dr. Dakta Prasad Dhital, a member of the Hospital Development Committee, said that the addition of new wards and services in recent times has greatly helped improve patient care and allowed many to receive timely treatment.

He also stressed that there was still much room to make improvement and that the team was committed to further development.
