Nuwakot is a beautiful place that holds a significant place in Nepal's history. Prithvi Narayan Shah, the founder of the Shah dynasty, began his quest to unify Nepal from Nuwakot. Recently I had visited Nuwakot. I had been counting days for this trip. The night before the trip, I was so excited that I barely slept.
On 19 February 2025, early in the morning, I quickly got ready. As soon as my van arrived, I was off to school, and I could barely contain my excitement. The cold morning air felt refreshing. Around 8:30 AM, we finally got on the buses. I ended up sitting next to my friend Kaya.
The sky was bright and clear, which was perfect for the journey ahead. The bus ride was about four to five hours, but it didn’t feel that long. With every passing hour we were getting closer. We took a short break to stretch and grab a snack. After arriving at Nuwakot Kakani Scout Camp, we were ready for lunch.
Our first adventure was ziplining. The instructors helped me put on the gear. I was both terrified and excited. The whole experience lasted only a few minutes, but it felt so long. We spent the rest of the afternoon challenging ourselves with team-building games, rock climbing, and an obstacle course.
We reflected on our experiences, laughing at the funny moments and encouraging each other to keep going.
On day two, we went off for Shivpuri Village Resort. The hike took about three to four hours, and by the time we reached the resort, my legs were sore from all the walking. But the views along the way were worth every step. When we arrived, the resort was surrounded by nature; after lunch, we rested in our rooms.
In the evening, we gathered around a bonfire. We shared stories, played music, and reflected on the day. The next day, we visited a farmhouse, surrounded by colourful flowers and greenery. We were welcomed with hibiscus juice. After a delicious lunch, we went to the Nuwakot Palace area for a history tour.
We learnt about the Malla kings. The tour was wonderful; that evening, we had dinner and then spent our last night talking and laughing together. On the final day, 22 February 2024, we packed up and said our goodbyes to Nuwakot.
I was excited to return home and relive the memories. We made a small stop at Trishuli, where we helped clean up the trash. After a few more hours on the road, we finally arrived back at school. I was picked up by my mom, and we went home. I will cherish these memories for years.
