Kathmandu, May 4: The government is fully committed to press freedom, citizens' right to information and constitutional dignity, the Prime Minister's Secretariat stated.
Issuing a press note on Monday, Prime Minister Balendra Shah's Secretariat shared that its serious attention was drawn to the news that media persons were banned from taking video at the premises of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, adding that there was no hindrance to the media.
The press note issued by PM Shah's press and research expert Deepa Dahal argued that the government is fully committed to press freedom, transparency and democratic values.
It said media persons were allowed to collect information and there was no obstacle, adding that there will not be any obstacle in the future as well. No instruction was issued to remove media persons or to stop them filming video, Dahal added.
The Secretariat also urged not to exaggerate the minor technical issues related with the security management as a constraint on press.
According to the Secretariat, Prime Minister Shah had enquired with the security personnel about security management after seeing a crowd of vehicles at the premises while entering the office on Monday.(RSS)
