Woman arrested for kidnapping American citizen and demanding 300,000 euros in ransom

By Ram Mani Dahal, Hetauda, Mar.27: Police have rescued an American citizen who was kidnapped from Newarpaniin Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-19.

A 70-year-old American passport holder was kidnapped from a hotel in Lakeside, Pokhara Metropolitan City-6, on Monday.

The elderly woman was rescued from kidnapping in collaboration with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police and the District Police Office, Makawanpur.

Police have also arrested a woman on charges of kidnapping the elderly woman.

According to Thakur Prasad Sapkota, the acting spokesperson for the Makwanpur District Police Office,  after being informed by the Central Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police, a woman involved in the kidnapping, along with the woman involved in kidnapping, was taken into custody.

According to him, the abducted person is an American citizen of Indian origin.

The American citizen was safely rescued from Newarpani during a search operation after the US Embassy in Nepal informed that the elderly woman, who had come to Nepal to visit the Muktinath Temple with her friends had been kidnapped and that a ransom of 300,000 euros had been demanded.

Police have arrested Sarita Lama, aged 37, Belkotgadhi Municipality-4, Nuwakot, on charges of kidnapping.

According to the police, the investigation process has been advanced to file a case against Sarita Lama, who is in police custody, for kidnapping and physical restraint.
