Cardamom price goes up, farmers say it will help cover past losses

Fungling, Nov 21: Cardamom farmers in Taplejung are elated that the price of cardamom has taken a leap this time as its market demand has soared. 

Purna Limbu, a cardamom farmer of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-5, shared his happiness over the rise in market price of cardamom. "The way the price has increased this time will help us to cover the losses we had in the past. It is a matter of great satisfaction for us to have this chance to sell our product in high prices."

The price of cardamom recorded Rs 107,000 for 40 kg which is equivalent to Rs 2,675 per kg.

The medium quality cardamom price is Rs 101,000 for 40 kg.  

The sale of cardamom started from August and its price has been continuously rising. 

The chairperson of the Cardamom Trader Association, Taplegunj, Bhadra Bir Regmi said the cardamom hit market from August and its price is going up.

The cardamom farming has extended to 45 thousand hectare land in Taplejung.

According to Agriculture Knowledge Center, production of cardamom production crosses three thousand metric ton.

Using quality seed and organic fertilizer has helped increasing its production. 

The Agriculture Knowledge Centre has been providing information and technology to farmers.
