Show cause order on Khas Aryas in PR system

blog

Kathmandu, April 1: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause order to the concerned authorities in a writ petition filed seeking priority for economically disadvantaged Khas Arya in the proportional representation of the electoral system of the country.

A single bench of Justice Shrikant Poudel today sought a written reply with reasons for not giving priority to disadvantaged Khas Arya in the proportional representation system. In the writ petition filed by social justice activist Khajanti Mahato Nuniya, Arjun Narsingh KC of the Nepali Congress and Padma Aryal of CPN (UML), have been named as defendants. Both were elected a member of the House of Representatives through the proportional representation system from their respective parties under the Khas Arya quota.

The writ petition demands that priority be given to economically disadvantaged Khas Aryas, as the main objective of the Constitution is to ensure social justice by implementing the principles of proportional representation, inclusiveness and participation.(RSS)
