Minister Gurung lauds contribution of films in social transformation

Kathmandu, Sept. 21: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said that the film sector has an incomparable contribution to the transformation of society.   

 Speaking at a programme, 'Cultural Transformation Award, 2081', organised by the Film Development Board on the occasion of the Constitution Day, Minister Gurung expressed commitment that the ministry would make maximum collaboration for the uplift of the film sector.     

"Film is an effective medium in transforming the society. The Ministry is positive for its development," he underlined.     

Sharing that the policy of the Film Development Board would be revised this year, Minister Gurung expected necessary suggestions in this regard.     

On the occasion, the Film Development Board honoured a film 'Balidan' with this year's the Cultural Transformation Award, 2081. 

The Board has decided to honour a movie every year based on its contribution to cultural transformation by promoting nationality, social justice, freedom of expression, human dignity and value as well as increasing ideological and emotional awareness in the society.     

Similarly, five artists for their contribution to cultural transformation through film were also awarded. Director of the movie 'Balidan', Tulasi Ghimire, cine artist Neer Shah, musician Shyam Tamot and singer Lochan Bhattarai were awarded.     

Likewise, other personalities —Ramesh Ranjan Jha, Kabita Ale, Desh Bhakta Khanal, Riddhicharan Shrestha, Maotse Gurung, Bikas Chaudhary and Prema Adhikari Gaire - were awarded for their contribution in transformation of society through other films.     

Minister Gurung and Secretary Radhika Aryal presented the awards carrying Rs 25,000 and a copper plaque to all of them.   (RSS)
