8 marquee players find teams for Nepal Premier League

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 15: The eight players who were nominated for the marquee players’ by the Cricket Association for Nepal (CAN) for the upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL) after a lucky draw in Kathmandu on Saturday.

The CAN revealed eight players for the marquee list on Friday. The players were captain Rohit Kumar Paudel, all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee, leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, pacer-duo Sompal Kami and Karan KC, wicketkeeper-batsman Aasif Sheikh, opener Kushal Bhurtel and power-hitter Kushal Malla.

A lucky draw was conducted to decide on the teams for the players following which Kathmandu got Karan. Similarly, Kushal Bhurtel will play for Pokhara and Kushal Malla for Chitwan.

Likewise, Sandeep and Rohit were drawn as the marquee players of Biratnagar and Lumbini respectively. Aasif, Sompal and Dipendra will be playing for Janakpur, Karnali and Sudurpashchim respectively.

“The value of the marquee players is Rs. 2 million each,” said Paras Khadka, secretary at the CAN.

Likewise, Khadka, also the former captain of the national cricket team, informed that the auction of the players will be organised before Dashain, i.e. within less than a month.

“The players will be categorised into different categories based on several standards,” Khadka informed.

The NPL is being hosted in Kathmandu by the CAN from November 30 to December 21.
