I was feeling very bored in Kathmandu during my holidays, so my mother made a plan for us to travel. My brother and I went to Nepalgunj by ourselves because my mom trusted me to take care of him. We travelled on a sleeper bus. When we reached Nepalgunj, we were very excited to see our mom after a long time. We hugged her as soon as we saw her. We stayed at my mom’s best friend Dilmaya’s house. I call her Maya Mamu. My brother and I were also happy to meet her son Prince, and we played together a lot.
On our last day in Nepalgunj, we went to Bageshwori Temple. After staying in Nepalgunj for about 12 days, we went to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. We visited many places and stayed in a hotel for two days. On our first day in Lumbini, we stayed in a hotel called Holy Birth. The moment we entered our room, my brother started jumping on the bed without any hesitation. He searched for something fun to play with, but instead, he found a telephone. He asked, “Mom, can I dial and order some food? I'm starving.” We ordered our meal and enjoyed it.
The next day, we had breakfast and then went sightseeing. We hired an auto-rickshaw to learn more about the places we were visiting. The driver’s name was Sailendra, who guided us and took photos. The pictures he took were so good that even my mom advised him to buy a camera and work as a photographer. We visited many monasteries built by different countries. They were all very beautiful. We also visited the exact place where Lord Buddha was born. We visited most of the places in Lumbini and learned a lot about Gautam Buddha.
Lumbini was very peaceful. It was a wonderful calm feeling to listen to chants of Budhhist. I feel everyone should visit Lumbini once in their life. Before leaving, we prayed for a better future.
The next morning, we left for Chitwan, the last destination of our trip. In Chitwan, my mom’s close friend Santosh Deuja Dada welcomed us. We stayed at his house. He treated us like family and took us many places to visit. On the first day, we visited Maulakalika and Sauraha. We went to Maulakalika at night, and the view was so amazing. We could see lights everywhere around. We took photos, made TikToks and enjoyed the cool wind.
After we returned from a tiring day, Dada planned an elephant ride before sleeping. After my brother heard about the plan, he became sad because he didn’t want to hurt the elephant by putting the load of people on it. Before we slept, he said a line that touched our hearts: “If my father were Balen Shah or KP Oli, I would request him to free all the horses and elephants by putting them into a zoo.”
That night, Santosh Dada told us that we would go on an elephant safari the next morning. My brother became sad because he did not want the elephant to carry people. The next morning, we rode an elephant for the first time. At first, we were frightened because during the safari, we could see rhinoceroses, deer, peacocks, and many-coloured birds.
But we became sad when we saw the mahout hitting the elephant. My brother questioned why he was beating the elephant. My mom requested he stop hitting the elephant. After the safari, we all vowed that we would never ride an elephant again. Then we visited a strawberry farm and picked strawberries. We also went to CG Mall, where we watched VR movies on the whole world and the dinosaurs. We concluded our trip with a motorboat ride on the Narayani River.
The following day we were thinking that we would be back to Kathmandu in a bus, but Santosh Dada surprised us with booked tickets for our flight journey.
It was one of the most memorable trips of my life. I am really grateful to Santosh Dada, Anushka Bhauju, Maya Mamu and all those people who have made our trip memorable.
