Everyone must unite to fight crime: IGP Kunwar

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 2: Inspector General of Nepal Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar has said that organised and transitional crimes have currently emerged as challenges worldwide and that everyone must unite and move forward to combat such crimes.

Inspector General Kunwar expressed these views while addressing a 'Walkathon' organised by the Department of Crime Investigation of the Nepal Police Headquarters on the occasion of the Second UN International Day of Police Cooperation-2024 on Sunday.

On the same occasion, IGP Kunwar highlighted that organised crimes occurring in various countries could not be controlled through unilateral efforts alone. 

He underscored the need for cooperation, exchange of information and coordination among all nations. 

IGP Kunar said. “This event symbolises our unity and commitment to global peace, security, and justice.”

The walkathon was jointly inaugurated by IGP Kunwar and Senior Project Manager of UNOPS, Stephen Anthony Otter, by releasing a banner.

The walkathon, which commenced from the Nepal Police Headquarters, saw the participation of IGP Kunwar, IGP of the Armed Police Force Raju Aryal, the Chief of the National Investigation Department, retired Inspector Generals, Additional Inspector Generals of Police, retired Additional Inspector Generals of Police, Brigadier General of the Nepali Army, Deputy Inspector Generals of Police, senior police officers, journalists, other distinguished invitees and police officers. 

The procession passed through Durbar Marg, Keshar Mahal and Narayanhiti before concluding by reaching the Nepal Police Headquarters.

The walkathon was organised to celebrate the International Day of Police Cooperation marked every year on September 7, in line with the declaration made on the occasion of the establishment of Interpol Day. Various programmes will be organised this year as well to mark the occasion.
