According to the hospital, the expansion work will begin in the current fiscal year.

Dr. Shibaji Poudel, the director of the Hospital, informed that the BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital is going to expand its services at the provincial level as per the programme announced by the government. He informed that they are going to expand the service by operating a cancer treatment room with at least five beds in a government hospital within the province.

"The hospital aims to take cancer treatment services to the provincial level. There is a need to expand the hospital's services to perform surgery, chemotherapy and cancer screening for cancer patients," said Dr. Poudel.

The hospital is going to expand its services to Dhankuta in Koshi Province, Janakpur in Madhes Province, Damauli in Gandaki Province, Dang in Lumbini Province, Surkhet in Karnali Province and Dhangadhi in Sudurpaschim Province.

However, in the case of Bagmati Province, the location has not been finalised.  Skilled doctors will be mobilised from the cancer hospital in the service centres.

"A cancer treatment centre will be built by training the doctors and nursing staff from the cancer hospital through skilled doctors", Dr. Paudel said, "At least once a month, a team of doctors from the hospital will go to the provincial service centres and stay for a week and train the doctors and health workers there."

The hospital will set up operation theatres, cancer treatment rooms and manage five beds at each service centre.

BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital was established in 1995 with the support of the Chinese government. The hospital, developed as the central cancer hospital of the country, now has 450 beds.
