Application opens for Nepali films to compete in Oscar

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 3: The Nepal-based International Feature Film Selection Committee of the Oscar Awards has sought applications from filmmakers for the upcoming edition.

Issuing a press statement on Friday, the selection committee announced the opening of applications for the 97th edition of the Academy Awards.

Applications are now open to send Nepali films for the Oscars, which will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, read the press release.

 According to it, a request letter was received from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, asking the ‘Foreign Language Film Selection Committee (Nepal)’ to select an excellent film that meets all the criteria set by the Academy and recommend it as a competitive film for the award competition.

Accordingly, the committee has requested applications from all Nepali film directors and producers who want to compete for the Oscars. 

Films screened in public between November 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024, will be eligible to compete for the 97th Academy Awards. 

To participate in the competition, films must be registered with the committee’s secretariat by September 12, 2024, read the press release.
