By TRN Online, Kathmandu, May 12: China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) has handed over a drinking water supply project constructed at Tarakeshwor.
The handover ceremony of the Kavresthali (Alle-Thumki) Drinking Water Supply Project at Tarakeshwor Municipality was organised today.
The ceremony signified the formal handover of the project to the Water User Committee, emphasizing the goal of ensuring sustainable management and maintenance of the water supply scheme at the village.
In May 2023, CFRD launched its "First Sustainable Development Experimental Village in Nepal" at Tarakeshwor Municipality, marking the commencement of five comprehensive development projects, read a press note issued by the CFRD.
These included the water supply system construction project, smiling children project (school feeding) which offers morning milk and afternoon lunch to the children in community schools, panda pack project which provides school bags with stationery and hygiene kits and warm clothes pack, skill development training in agriculture project for local farmers and library project in community schools.
The pioneering initiative aimed to establish a model for integrated and sustainable development practices of the foundation, taking advantages of its experience in rural and community development in China and to support sustainable growth and progress in Nepalese communities. Additionally, in 2022, CFRD achieved a remarkable milestone by effectively completing a Water Supply System for Bhupu Madhyabindu Municipality-12 providing individual water tap access to 814 households within the village, according to the press note.
The ceremony was jointly inaugurated by Krishna Hari Maharjan, Mayor of Tarakeshwor Municipality, Wang Xin, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of People’s Republic of China to Nepal, Bhimsen Das Pradhan, Former Defense Minister, Wu Peng, Director of International Development Department of China Foundation for Rural Development, by unveiling banner at distribution tank and opening gate valve of distribution tank, demonstrating the successful completion of the project.
The ceremony was witnessed by distinguished local leaders, water user committee, community people and media representatives. The ceremony symbolized the collaboration between international organization and local authorities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SGD): Clean Water and Sanitation.
The Kavresthali (Alle-Thumki) Drinking Water Supply Project, initiated by CFRD, underscores the organization's commitment to improving the livelihoods of communities by providing access to clean and safe drinking water benefiting over 4,500 community people covering 300 household in total, stated the CFRD.
The CFRD's Director of International Development Department Wu Peng commended the dedication and resilience of the local community in driving the project forward, reaffirming the organization's ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable development initiatives in Nepal and beyond.
In his address, the Mayor of Tarakeshwor Municipality expressed gratitude to CFRD for their invaluable support and emphasized the transformative impact of the project on the lives of residents. He ensured the municipality's commitment to working closely with the user committee to uphold the objectives of the project and ensure its continued success.
