Arguably the most sorted after musician in the contemporary Nepali music industry, Sabin Rai is a sensation who continues to reinvent his musical persona and cater to the evolving palette of his humongous devotees. With a splendid career extending over two decades, the singer’s impeccable intuition in fabricating his songs have aged well and helps perpetuate their deserved
artistic significance.
With six massively successful albums under his belt: Nine (2001), Sataha (2003), Sabin Rai Remixes (2004), Sataha 2 (2006), Ranga Mancha Ko Rang (2010) and Dhanyabaad (2018). His discography exhibits experiments with a range of genres including pop, hard rock, soft-rock, fusion, love ballads and more. However, the raspy voiced entertainer is lauded the most for his ethereal love ballads profoundly impacting a colossal majority of Nepali speaking demographic.
Sabin Rai is undoubtedly one of the few Nepali creators whose music can be traced in any nook and cranny of the country. Be it in the hills of Gosaikunda broadcasting via a FM radio, in the plains of Jhapa playing through the speakers of a truck or a stream on the phone of a resident from the hills of Dailekh. His music also transcends borders as people residing in the Gorkhaland regions and Nepali diaspora fanned out across the globe deeply adore the singer and his oeuvre.
His widespread prominence affiliated with a stellar set of songs and electrifying live performances is the reason for his busy concert schedule. An example derived from the past month alone (February 2024), as Sabin Rai and The Pharaoh graced the stages of Kalimpong, Korea, Biratnagar, Pokhara, Dhankuta, Itahari, Dharan, Butwal, Udayapur, Damak and Kathmandu.
And accompanying him on the stage are his members from The Pharaoh, comprising an incredible line-up of musicians enhancing the singer’s strength and ingenious two-folds. The Pharaoh are John Shrestha on guitars, Jeevan Lama on bass, Binod Lama Tamang on drums, Steven Tamang and Subash Gurung on audio engineering, Abiz Basukala and Jitesh Shakya on technical team.
