By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 7: Maiti Nepal hosted a felicitation programme on the occasion of the 114th International Women’s Day with this year’s international theme ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’, and national theme ‘Investing in Women, Building a Civilised Society’.
Jointly organised by the Embassy of India in Nepal and Maiti Nepal and in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation, the event aimed at recognising and celebrating the extraordinary achievements of women who have made a significant impact in various fields.
During the ceremony, two remarkable individuals were recognized, according to a statement of Maiti Nepal.
Menuka Poudel, a visually impaired singer known for her participation in Indian Idol Season 14, and Ratna Kumari Sunuwar, an inspirational 80-year-old woman who recently achieved academic excellence by passing her high school exams with first division were honoured.
Bishwo Khadka, the Executive Director of Maiti Nepal, emphasised the significance of the event in showcasing women’s achievements, inspiring others to overcome barriers and pursue their aspirations.
Both honourees, Poudel and Sunuwar, expressed their gratitude and commitment to further contribute nationally and internationally.
Deputy Chief of Mission Prasanna Shrivastava from the Indian Embassy in Nepal highlighted the importance of celebrating women who defy the odds and contribute significantly to society.
The Chief Guest, former Chief Minister of Bagmati Province Asta Laxmi Shakya, expressed her privilege in witnessing the acknowledgement of these exceptional women.
Anuradha Koirala, founder of Maiti Nepal, said, “Each story recognised today serves as an inspiration to the indomitable spirit of women around the world.”
