By Our Correspondent,Banepa, Mar. 3: Rosi Rural Municipality in Kavrepalanchok District has recently facilitated the handover of various cultural materials aimed at preserving the heritage of the Hayu community residing in Ward No 10, Walting. Dinesh Lama, chairman of the rural municipality, led the initiative to provide support to the Hayu community in collaboration with Bhumesthan Hayu Samaj and with the endorsement of Rosi Rural Municipality.
During the event, chairman Lama presented a collection of cultural artifacts including two drums, two pairs of sticks, two bows and arrows, one bell, a set of priest’s attire, and ten pieces of traditional jewelry for both men and women.
Rosi Rural Municipality has estimated the value of the materials at approximately 200 thousand rupees, emphasizing their commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of the Hayu community in Ward No 10, Walting. Chairman Lama reiterated the rural municipality’s dedication to safeguarding the Hayu community’s interests and pledged ongoing support, noting that the Hayu community exclusively resides within the jurisdiction of the rural municipality.
Lakshman Hayu, the central president of Hayu Ekta Samaj, highlighted the socio-economic challenges faced by the Hayu community and called upon governmental assistance to uplift their standard of living. He emphasized the importance of preserving the Hayu community’s distinct language, script, and culture, urging state intervention to ensure their revival. Presently, Rosi Rural Municipality-10, Walting is home to 11 households of the Hayu community, with a total population of 85 individuals in the district.
