National Forum of Newar Journalists honours journos

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 19: National Forum of Newar Journalists honoured Upesh Maharjan, Consulting Editor of the Gorkhapatra Corporation, for his significant contribution to promoting Nepal Bhasa, Newar culture and in issues of inclusiveness.

He was honoured on the occasion of its 12th annual general meeting in Kathmandu on Saturday.

On the occasion, Kiran Shakya, Administrative Chief at Guthi Sansthan, and Danda Gurung, former chairman of the Federation of Nepalese Indigenous Journalists, were also honoured. 

Similarly, six journalists were also honoured with cash prizes for their contribution to mother tongue journalism in Nepali media. 

Bishwontar Shakya was awarded 'Gyan Jyoti Laxmi Prabha Award'  carrying a purse of Rs. 20,000, Yuvraj Shrestha was awarded 'Gyandevi Mani Journalism Award' with a purse Rs. 15,000 and Uden Nhusayami was honoured 'Bhikchu Kumar Kashyap Memorial Journalism Award' of Rs. 12,000. 

Similarly, Silviya Rajopadhyaya was honoured with 'Bangmaya Satabdi Purus Satya Mohan Joshi Journalism Award', Buddha Sharan Shahi was recognised with 'Baburaja Jyapu Photo Journalism' and Renu Tyanabasu with 'Shree Ram Memorial Journalism Award'.  Each of these awards carried a purse of Rs. 10,000.
