Durgalal Shrestha, poet Raj Bhai Jakami honoured

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 9: Nepa: Pasa Pucha: America conferred honorary patronage to Durgalal Shrestha, the Nepal Bhasha (Newari language) poet, and folk poet Raj Bhai Jakami in Kathmandu.

Sunita Dangol, Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, emphasised the significance of honouring two generations simultaneously, citing its potential to inspire the youth to Newari language, art and culture. 

Stressing the importance of language as an element of identity, Dangol urged parents to converse with their children in their native tongue.

President Manohar Shrestha of Nepa: Pasa Pucha :America highlighted the purpose behind honouring them.

The organisation was established in America approximately 32 years ago.

Unfortunately, esteemed poet Shrestha couldn’t attend the event due to health reasons, but his message was conveyed through a recording.

Expressing his delight, honoured poet Jakami shared that he has been dedicated to literary pursuits for 14 years under the mentorship of Shrestha and honouring together with him was a big coincidence.
