Bham’s ‘Shambhala' selected for Berlin International Film Festival

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 24Min Bahadur Bham’s film ‘Shambhala' has officially been selected for the Berlin International Film Festival, making it the first Nepali feature film to achieve this feat.

 Bham’s film has been chosen in the international film category for the 74th edition of the Berlin Festival, which is considered one of the world’s top three and most prestigious film festivals.

Organising a press conference in Lalitpur on Monday, the film unit officially announced the news and unveiled the film’s poster.

Earlier, Bham made history with the first-ever entry from Nepal as his short film ‘Bansulli’ was selected for the Venice Film Festival. His film ‘Kalo Pothi’ achieved recognition by clinching the Best Film Award at the 72nd Venice Film Festival, Critics Week.

The film ‘Shambhala’ narrates the compelling story of a pregnant woman in a remote Himalayan village who embarks on a journey with her brother-in-law after her husband abandons her.

 Written by Bham and Avinash Vikram Shah, the film is produced under the banner of Suny Films.

 'Shambhala’ features a talented cast including Thinley Lhamo, Sonam Topden and Tenzing Dalha in lead roles.

The film which has already secured numerous international accolades was shot in the picturesque landscapes of Dolpa. 

 'Shambhala' is said to be made spending approximately Rs.140 million.
