RSS subscribers assess latest improvement in news service

Kathmandu, Aug 11:   The Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) subscribers have said the RSS lately achieved improvements in quality of its news service.     

They made such observation during an interaction on 'quality and effectiveness of RSS news service' held at RSS central office on Friday. As they stated RSS feature news, articles and other news contents have improvements. However, the subscribers expected further improvement in news service.     

Putting their views during the interaction were editors and chief news reporters from various media- print, online and radio. They were Rameshwor Karki, Bhimlal Shrestha, Devika Ghartimagar, Aman Koirala, Deepak Acharya, Pawan Pyakurel, Sirjana Timalsina, Bhim Aatreya, Kedar Bhattarai, Bal Krishna Gyawali, Bharat Raj Pokhrel, Yadav Devkota and Madhav Tiwari among others.     

On the occasion, RSS executive chair Dharmendra Jha said the RSS institutionally and personally welcomed the entire feedback presented during the discussion, pledging to internalize and implement them. He was of the view that RSS services could be good sources for the development of secondary news for other media.     

Chair Jha reiterated that the RSS was committed to further improving its morning news bulletin as advised by the participants.     

On the occasion, RSS general manager Siddharaj Rai said the interaction aimed to collect feedback of the RSS service from its clients and implement them gradually in the days ahead.     

RSS board member Dilli Ram Bhattarai pledged to own up the programme submissions and consider these while taking the policy level decisions.     

RSS deputy general manager and RSS video service chief Raju Shakya viewed the RSS lately introduced visual service which had tried its best to include contents from all the seven provinces and 77 districts while another deputy general Shyam Rimal expressed his hope that the programme would help foster the relations between RSS and its subscribers.     

Deputy general manager and RSS news division chief Somnath Lamichhane shed light on RSS' latest endeavor to explore investigative news based the advices of its client.     

Radio Nepal deputy executive director Khagendra Khatri opined that the RSS and Gorkhapatra daily presented visible improvements in the news service lately.     

RSS feature news chief Krishna Adhikari said opinions and interviews were also the part of the RSS feature news section.     

Chief reporter Uttam Silwal vowed to make additional efforts to ensure the enhancement of RSS services being based on the programme submissions.     

Chief editor Yekraj Pathak said the journalism was referred to as the literature in haste, admitting that some linguistic errors, particularly due to the ongoing revision of the Nepali dictionary and weakness in the news style over the recent years. He said, "Errors in the news are not uncommon. Eighteen errors were assessed during the review of Washington Post daily."     

The programme feedback is highly valuable for further reform, he mentioned. (RSS)
