Pin Hope On Scientists

blog

Damages, caused by floods and landslides, are immense and irreparable in this season. We, Kathmanduites, have been facing consequences of the destruction made to the Melamchi Water Supply Project by the flash floods two years ago. We are fearful for such devastations in the near future, too, as the rainy season continues. The settlements destroyed by the massive landslides in Sankhuwasabha, Sindhupalchowk, Doti and other parts of the country last year have yet to be restored.

Many countries in Asia, Europe and Africa are bearing the brunt of climate change in one way or the other. Pakistan faced unprecedented floods last year. Similarly, the over flooded sacred Yamuna River in India has beaten the history of 45 long years. The river has submerged the historic Raj Ghat and adjoining hundreds of settlements. The typhoons in the coastal cities of China and Vietnam and massive human casualties in the landslides in South Korea some weeks ago are apparent example of the impact of the climate change. The hardworking people of Japan have been suffering from the sweltering heat of the season and are not yielding as their desires.

Currently, several European and American cities are also experiencing higher temperatures. A Briton was complaining that his children were facing record high temperatures for more than two weeks. DW Television recently reported that Germany is enduring the impact of the climate change. Even the French government has asked its citizens to stay home. Greece has also been bearing the cost of climate change this year as Australia suffered last year. A Greece city named Rhodes is literally burning along with other historically important cities. The Greek prime minister has told citizens to be ready for the worst.

As believers look at gods when they are suffering from unwanted problems, the non-believers and citizens of the world who have been suffering from the impact of the climate change look at two power centres - political power centres and scientific power centres or society. The political power centres are further divided into two groups -- those who believe that the human behaviour is the cause of climate change. The United Nations, poor countries and some organisations fall into this category; whereas some countries and some world leaders as former president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro and ex-president of the United States of America Donald Trump do not believe that humans are responsible for the rise of temperature in the world.

Therefore, politicians are divided on this issue so they cannot be fully relied. On the other hand, in many instances, politicians are hypocrites. They do not do what they commit to do. So, the majority of political leaders do not work faithfully to control the climate change. We have full hope on the scientists because they are laborious and credible. Thales of Miletus in Ionia had declared that plants need water. The inventions of Galileo Galilei, Louis Pasteur, Alexander Fleming and other scientists have changed the course of the planet earth. So, the people of the world who have been facing merciless hardships induced by the climate change are expecting eagerly that the scientists will be able to invent accurate forecast system, thereby avoiding the scourge of global warming.
