By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 14: High mast and smart street lights have been installed in Manthali, the district headquarters of Ramechhap and Bethan in Sunapati Rural Municipality-4, of the same district.
The Nepal Electricity Authority in partnership with the municipalities has installed high mast and street lights in the main squares of Manthali Municipality and Bethan.
After the installation of the lights, those areas have become illuminated at night.
A total of 170 energy-efficient street lights that consume less electricity but give more light have been installed in the urban area of Manthali Municipality, according to the NEA.
In total of 19 sixty-watt astro lights, eighty 60-watt smart lights and seventy-one 90-watt smart lights have been installed.
The modern high mast light has been installed on a 12.5-metre-high pole at the Bus Park and Binita Chowk, which scatters light in all directions.
The cost of street lighting is Rs. 15.6 million.
Similarly, 331 smart lights have been installed in the Bethan area of Sunapati Rural Municipality.
A total of 148 60-watt astro lights and 183 60-watt smart lights have been installed in the area. The three high mast lights are installed on a 12.5-metre-high pole.
The cost of street lighting is Rs. 20 million.
The road lights installed in Manthali area were jointly inaugurated by NEA managing director Kul Man Ghising and mayor of Mantahli Municipality Lawa Shrestha.
Similarly, the lights installed in Bethan were jointly inaugurated by Ghising and chairman of Sunapati Rural Municipality Tulakancha Tamang.
Ghising said that after the end of load shedding in the places where electricity is available, the work of bringing electricity to the homes of every citizen who are living in the dark 24 hours a day is being done as a campaign.
He said, "We have moved forward with the strategy of consuming domestically produced electricity here, building hydropower projects to meet the demand in winter, and exporting excess electricity during the rainy season."
Street lights will increase nighttime beauty by making road travel safe at night and enhancing street and urban beauty.
It has been arranged that the concerned municipalities will pay the tariff of street lights.
The smart light can be controlled automatically from the feeder panel in the Authority's system.
Smart light is directly connected to the Authority's server. There is an automatic system to turn on the lights when it's dark and turn off when it's bright from the software.
Billing of electricity tariff is done through the software. The monitoring of whether or not the light is on can also be done through the software.
The Authority is installing smart lights on the main roads, historical cultural heritages, listed in the World Heritage List and tourist sites in coordination and partnership with the municipalities as part of the bright city campaign.
According to the contract agreement, regular maintenance of street lights will be done by the builder for five years. Structures like poles, wires and lights will be owned by the Authority.
The Authority believes that this will enhance the beauty of the city, increase the demand for electricity and also consume electricity that is wasted at night.
