Studying abroad has become a growing trend among Nepali students in recent years. Better academic opportunities, career prospects, and availability of financial aid and different kinds of scholarship programme of foreign universities have encouraged them to pursue higher studies abroad.  Soon after the completion of school education, students are leaving the country in search of a stable environment for further studies. The expectations of better educational opportunities in the desired field and a little hope of standing out in the job market after graduation have increased the tendency of newcomers more likely to move to another country to pursue higher education.

And this increasing swing has raised concerns about the negative implications in Nepal. The brain drain has already impacted the country’s economy. If this trend continues, no competent workforce will be left to conduct skillful activities. Innovations will fully be shut down which will drastically downgrade the development of the country. The harsh reality is that no industry will run due to a lack of workforce and an innovative mindset. The flow of young people into foreign countries in droves is likely to bring a crisis to the country which is a very bad sign for a developing country like Nepal.

Government really needs to tackle the issue. It is necessary to create an environment that encourages young people to stay and engage in progressive activities. The main reason for the brain drain is political instability. The negative attributes have restricted students in their personal growth limiting their opportunities in each and every sector they go. Corruption has been a major reason for all the hindrances. The availability of limited seats in reputed educational institutions and high grading system has made the competition higher which means very few students get a chance to study in the reputed academies.

Although after getting good grades, some deserving students do not get a chance to study in the institute they choose due to corruption and bribery. Along with the educational system, students also want good facilities and better infrastructure in return for the amount they pay. But institutions here don’t even have the proper facilitated classrooms for easy learning. Nepal’s educational system is a bit behind the technology. Nepal lacks advanced equipment and technologies to conduct high-quality research which is constricting the thoughts and ideas of students. The culture and concept of teaching in Nepal are conventional.

Impedes in the completion of the course in the allotted time and delayed results have made the universities of Nepal unreliable. Also, the courses of many specialised programmes are not available in Nepal which is why many students are leaving the country unwantedly.  Everybody wants to broaden their perspective and choosing abroad for higher education is providing better opportunities for students to learn about different practices which are helping them in different fields. Students are going abroad for better educational opportunities and the reason is convincing.

Being aware of this situation, the government must take some proactive measures to improve the educational systems in Nepal. It is obligatory to create meaningful schemes and provide opportunities for scholars to encourage students and give assurance to provide quality education with better career opportunities to make youngsters stay in Nepal.
