By Raju Lamichhane,Rukum (West), Mar. 15: Under its safe citizen housing programme, the Chaurjahari Rural Municipality of Rukum (West) has started travelling to the villages of Ward No. 14 to conclude agreements with the selected beneficiaries.
Sher Prasad Dhakal, acting chief administrative officer of the municipality, said that the municipality had signed agreements with the 42 of the 47 households selected from the ward for the programme. He said that the municipality’s teams would travel to settlements in other wards too.
Chaurjahari Mayor Pushpa Badi said that the local government planned to replace the thatch roofs of 230 houses of the municipality this year. He said that they would provide each of the selected homes with Rs. 50,000 to replace their straw roof with corrugated zinc sheets.
Badi further said that they would travel to the villages to allow people to access services under this programme with ease. He hoped that this would save the people’s time and money by eliminating the need to travel, make the process hassle-free, effective and transparent.
Thal Bahadur Kawar, chairman of Ward No. 14, expressed his happiness that the municipality began implementing this campaign from his ward, which is the farthest from the municipality headquarters. He said that such village-based services would eliminate the need for people to go around government offices, spend money on vehicle fares and hotel fares and allocate a whole day to get their work done.
Kawar said the ward office would coordinate and monitor with other agencies to implement the programme. It is already collaborating with the municipality’s Infrastructure Development Division, Nepal Bank Limited and local printers to provide integrated services.
