Wild elephant kills man in Bara

By Our Correspondent,Bara, Mar. 3: A man has died on the spot from wild elephant attack in Tangiya settlement of Jeetpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City-16, Bara. The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Gapang Darlami.

Ward chair Hari Dev Kharel informed that Darlami was attacked by the elephant on Wednesday evening while he was on his way to the forest.

The head of Division Forest Office Bara, Binod Singh, informed that the wild elephant, which had entered the settlement five days ago crossing Bagmati River in Bishrampur village, Rautahat disrict, had now returned to the forest. 

The wild elephant, which had entered the settlement on Sunday night, was hiding in the sugarcane field of Akalu Shah from Siswa Maheshpur Tole in Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City- 27. 

Teams including Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Armed Forest Guards, Forest Staff, Parsa National Park Army had monitored the elephant throughout the day, and the Nepal Army team under the leadership of Lieutenant Rabindra Bahadur Shahi of Parsa National Park had made efforts to prevent the elephant from entering the human settlement and bringing it to the forest.

Mukti Vikram Shah, the chief soldier of Siddhibox Gana Adhabhar, said that he had fired three rounds of aerial shots in an effort to control and stop it from entering the settlement. The elephant even had damaged the storage house of Bir Mahammad Hawari and the wall of a house in Mahendranagar Katarawa of Ward No. 17.
