By Sujan Kafle,Dolakha, Feb. 27: Construction of a bridge over the Tamakoshi River along the Lamosanghu-Jiri Road in Tamakosi of Dolakha district has not been completed even in six years after works began on it because of negligence on the part of the construction company.
Roshan Thapa, a local, said that the construction company abandoned the bridge after preparing its plinth and erecting pillars.
The bridge will connect Bhimeshwor Municipality with Baiteshwor Rural Municipality.
Rest of the construction work has not made any headway, he added.
Bhishma Prakash Khadka, another local, said that they were not sure about the completion of the bridge since the contractor was out of contact.
Nilgiri National JV Company had signed a contract for the construction of the bridge on August 23, 2016.
According to the agreement, the bridge should have been completed within two years at a cost of Rs. 97.49 million.
In lack of the bridge, the locals and vehicles heading to the district headquarters Charikot, Jiri Municipality, Baiteshwor and Tamakoshi villages and the neighbouring district of Ramechhap from Kathmandu had to travel risking their life.
The Bridge Planning Division had already extended the deadline twice for the construction of the bridge. Due to the delay in the construction of the new bridge, vehicles had to passthrough the three-decade-old bridge.
