By Our Correspondent,Ghorahi, Feb. 25: Artist Mithu Tharu’s passion for painting and sculpture is enticing.
The 34-year-old artist has the ability to replicate situations and scenes beautifully through his paintings.
He has been making hundreds of paintings and sculptures in a short span of time, making a good fortune.
Mithu, a resident of Bhagatpur, Janaki Municipality-3, Kailali district, is particularly interested in paintings and sculptures based on the Tharu art, culture and lifestyle. He has already become a popular painter in the Terai districts of western Nepal.
As the financial situation of his family was weak, he started studied by working as a servant in a landlord’s house in Bhaktapur at his tender age of 12. Mithu, who was interested in painting from his young age, was not supported by his family and relatives
at first.
Even though he wanted to study art after passing SLC (School Leaving Certificate) in 2004, he enrolled on the management stream under family pressure.
Due to his lack of interest in management study he couldn’t complete higher education. After failing seven times, he dropped out from college and began learning painting in his spare time.
He said that after finishing his housework, he used to visit the art gallery near his home to learn something new during his free time. He used to look at the paintings made by other artists and come home and practice to make them.
He said that he has been making paintings and sculptures visiting parks, homestays, temples, palaces, big hotels and tourist places in Lumbini and various districts of the terai.
Mithu, who is now studying painting at the Nepal Fine Arts Campus, expressed his confidence that he would be a successful artist as he was studying the subject of his interest.
Although his family did not allow him to become an artist earlier, they are now happy to see his success. He has made more than 250 paintings and around 100 sculptures so far.
