By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 25: The 8th general convention of National Folk and Duet Song Academy began at Dhadingbesi, the district headquarters of Dhading, on Friday.
Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel inaugurated the convention.
Inaugurating the convention, Chief Minister Jamkattel said that the contribution of song and music to the development of the country was incomparable.
Chief Minister Jamkattel said that it was necessary to move forward unitedly for the preservation and support of folk music and culture.
Stating that he is also a listener to folk and duet songs, he said that the role of folk music was important for the development of cultural aspects.
Speaking at the event, Ramnath Adhikari, member of the House of Representatives, reminded that the role of artists, journalists and writers was important to achieve many things in the country.
He said that the role of artists was equally important to make the rulers aware and guide them in the right direction.
Before the opening of the programme, a rally was held at the district headquarters with various tableaus. The convention will elect a new working committee for a three-year term.
The convention of the Academy, which is attended by more than 1000 representatives, will conclude on February 26.
