General convention of Folk and Duet Song Academy from tomorrow

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 23: The eighth general convention of the National Folk and Duet Song Academy Nepal, an umbrella organisation of folk-duet artistes, is scheduled for February 24-26.  

According to Ramesh BG, chairman of the Academy, preparations for the general convention have been completed.

Organising a press conference in Kathmandu on Tuesday, chairman BG expressed his belief that some positions including the chairman would be elected unanimously in the convention.

The Academy has 26, 118 members from all over the country.

BG said, "To reduce the cost, we have planned to conclude the convention in three days." After the closing session of the first day of convention, they plan to decide the candidates in the evening of the February 24.

He further added, "After all-night efforts on the February 24, we will conduct voting on the following day and announce the results after counting the votes on the last day of the general convention."

According to  BG, about 1,000 representatives will vote and elect office bearers from 72 district level committees, six province level committees, life members, honourary members and all representatives including the central committee.

According to general secretary of the Academy Subas KC, the Academy established in 1998 has its branch offices in 54 districts, nine valley coordination committees, nine foreign branches, 72 district level committees, one valley coordination committee and six province level committees.

 He also said that the academy currently has 23,322 general members. 

He further added, "In two provinces and 12 districts, we have already completed the process of building our own buildings. Similarly, we have also started a campaign to run an attractive folk museum."

Badri Pangeni, the outgoing chairman of the Academy, said that the Academy has made a great contribution to the development of folk music by bringing together Nepali folk singing artists from abroad.
