By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 23: Deputy Inspector General and Chief of Sudurpaschim Province Police Office Ashok Singh tendered his resignation from the post on Wednesday at the Police Headquarters.

DIG Singh resigned due to age controversy after two separate date of birth records were found in his citizenship when he joined the police force.

In his citizenship issued on June 4, 1985, Singh’s age is mentioned directly as 18 years. In the certificate of educational qualification and his enrollment at the police force, Singh’s date of birth is mentioned as December 30, 1968.

DIG Singh is seen as a prospective candidate for the promotion to the post of Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG).

According to the date of birth in 1985, he had already crossed 55 years on June 5, 2022, and should have retired from SSP post as per the Rule 127 of the Police Regulations 2015 A.D., the age limit for SSP post being 55 years.

DIG Poshraj Pokharel and Spokesperson for the Police Headquarters confirmed that DIG Singh has tendered his resignation from the post on Wednesday. Earlier, DIG Singh claimed that someone had taken political revenge against him.

Bishwo Prakash Bhetwal had field a charge sheet against DIG Singh at the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) for forging the date of birth, demanding investigation into his citizenship and educational certificates.  Bhetwal had registered his application against DIG Singh on February 20, 2022 at the CIAA.
