Three-day Karnali festival begins

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 18: The fourth edition of the Karnali festival began at Bulbule Lake in Surkhet, the capital of Karnali Povince,  on Friday.  Rajkumar Sharma, Chief Minister of Karnali Province, inaugurated  the festival.

At the opening ceremony of the three-day festival, Chief Minister Sharma said that he was confident that the debate initiated for the development of a prosperous Karnali would help in the growth of Karnali.

 Stating that there is no shortage of people to explain the problem in Karnali, Chief Minister Sharma said that the discussion should focus on solving the problems. 

Stating that continuous discussions and debates are necessary for that, Chief Minister Sharma said that responsibility should also be taken in policy formulation and implementation.

Chief Minister Sharma said that there should be debates and discussions about the ways and means of reaching the socialist oriented system mentioned in the constitution. 

“The socialism we all want and think is happiness. Our happiness is connected with economic prosperity. It will be discussed and debated by accepting it,” he added.

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Mayor of Birendranagar Municipality Nilakantha Khanal said that there would be no lack of support from Birendranagar Municipality for the festival celebrations.

 He said that the debate at the festival would serve as a guide for the provincial government and all local governments within  the province.

National Planning Commission Secretary Kewal Prasad Bhandari said that the Karnali festival was organised with the aim of telling the story of the people of Karnali.
