Halkara to be released in May

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 14: 'Halkara', which has been awarded at various festivals in America, is scheduled to be released across the country on May 12. Written and directed by Bikram Sapkota, who has been living in the US, the film stars Mahesh Tripathi and Binita Thapa Magar in the lead roles.

"The film has tried to show the impact of foreign employment in Nepali society through the medium of a villager delivering letters," director Sapkota said, "The film is inspired by a true story.”

 But an effort has been made to present the story in an entertaining way as much as possible, he added.  In the film, Mahesh Tripathi plays the role of Ram as a postman while Binita Thapa plays the character of Magar Miya.

'Halkara' was declared the best film at the World Fest Houston Film Festival in America and its lead actor Mahesh won the best actor award. Also, the film was awarded in the 'Long Narrative' category at the Nepal-America Film Festival and was selected in other festivals as well.

Umesh Tamang, Pashupati Rai, late actor Deepak Chhetri, Bidya Karki have also acted in the film.
