By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 13: A research book titled ‘Bahattar Salko Bhukampa’ jointly written by Tara Nidhi Bhattarai, Nimananda Rijal and Kishore Thapa has been published.
The book was launched jointly by Sushil Gyawali, a member of the National Planning Commission, and Mohan Murthy Pant, an architect, on Saturday.
Speaking at the programme, Gyawali said, "This book has a critical view towards us and the shortcomings in our working system.
It is important to take the questions raised by the book positively while appreciating the authors' writing and academic integrity."
Speaking at the event, Professor Pant clarified that the book is based on the experiences one had gained from the earthquakes in the past, both in Nepal and around the world.
Professor Pant is also an expert who has studied extensively the earthquake that hit Kobe, Japan, in 1995.
Among three authors, Tara Nidhi Bhattarai is a professor of geology. He has been teaching at Tri-Chandra Campus for 25 years. He has been studying and researching in the fields of geology, disaster management, sustainable development and climate change for a long time.
Another author Dr. Nimananda Rijal is a technical educationist. He has contributed to the development of technical and vocational education in Botswana for about 17 years and in Nepal for 16 years. Currently, he is teaching as a visiting professor in Kathmandu University.
Similarly, Kishore Thapa is an engineer as well as former Secretary of the Government of Nepal.
While in government service, Thapa served as Secretary at the Ministry of Urban Development, Education, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Water and Energy Commission and Election Commission.
All the three authors of the book worked as experts of the steering committee of the National Reconstruction Authority formed after the 2015 earthquake.
This book sheds light on the important and far-reaching works done in six years after the 2015 earthquake.
The book starts with a discussion of the geological structure of Nepal, a detailed introduction of earthquakes, seismic history of Nepal, scientific analysis of 2015 earthquakes, rescue, relief, damages and search operations, formation of National Reconstruction Authority, reconstruction of damaged physical structures, geological study of risky settlements, development of integrated settlements and the social aspects of reconstruction.
Speaking at the programme, writer Bhattarai said, "Because of our ignorance, we had to suffer more damages in the earthquake and if the right materials are not prepared and included in the education system, the way ahead will look terrible."
