Premendra Mazumder, Li Ran jury of NIFF

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 10: Two foreign filmmakers have been nominated in the jury of the 6th Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF). 

The nominees are Premendra Mazumder, famous writer and critic of Indian films, and Dean Li Ran of Beijing Film Academy. 

Premendra Mazumder is considered to be the man who brought renaissance in the Indian film industry.

 Premendra has established himself as the voice of the global film community in the fields of film criticism, writing, curating and consulting. Premendra has made a significant presence in many prestigious film festivals including Cannes International Film Festival and Cairo International Film Critics Week.

One of Premendra’s most notable achievements is the launch of the largest international film festival, which is screened in more than 40 cities across India. Inaugurated in Kolkata in 2015, the festival has become a major cultural event, bringing the best of world cinema to audiences across the country.

Similarly, Li Ran, Dean of the International School of Beijing Film Academy, is considered to be an expert in film marketing and distribution. She is experienced in organising and curating international film festivals. She has also gained experience as the main organiser of many events related to movies.

Li Ran has been the Director of the Main Competition Unit of the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) since 2014, the Executive Director of the First National Film Week for Primary and Secondary School Students in 2015, the Director of the Competition Department of the Silk Road International Film Festival in 2016 and 2018.

Earlier, actress Priyanka Karki and Indra Lal Balami were nominated in the jury committee.

 This year, 14 awards will be distributed in seven different categories. Altogether 95 long, short, documentary and animated films from 35 countries have been selected for the NIFF.
