Dhalkebar, May 10: Landless squatters at Dhalkebar in Dhanusha district have
staged a demonstration demanding guarantee of land and shelter.
Dhanusha district working committee of National Land
Rights Forum organized the demonstration of the squatters that turned into a
corner assembly at Mahendra Park after the rallies in which the participants
carried placards that read 'Stop the campaign to uproot', 'ensure rights to land
and shelter' and ensure life and livelihood'.
Addressing the assembly, Ichchharam Pariyar, central
committee member of the Forum, urged the government not to destroy squatters'
settlement with dozers. He demanded that the government should provide for the
squatters and that they should be given the land ownership certificate of the
one in which they have been living.
Pariyar spoke positively about the government's step
to manage the squatters but viewed that it was wrong to uproot them before
arranging for their shelter.
Govind Sada, a squatter at Dinabhadri squatter settlement
in Mithila Municipality-3, demanded provision of permanent shelter for squatter
and end of using dozer to demolish squatters' homes.
