Wife dies, husband injured in Nawalpur road mishap

By Gyanu Pangeni, Madhyabindu, May 8: A woman got killed while her husband sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred on Friday afternoon along the East-West Highway at Thumsi in Gaidakot Municipality-9, Nawalpur district.

According to police, the accident took place when a tipper truck (Na 7 Kha 8621) en route from  Narayanghat towards Bhedabari hit a motorcycle (Lu 41 Pa 9237) traveling in the same direction.

Information Officer of the District Police Office, Nawalpur, Anil Pandit, said that 35-year-old Jamuna Giri Thapa of Devchuli Municipality-10, who was riding pillion on the motorcycle, died in the incident.

The motorcycle rider, her husband, 40-year-old Raj Bahadur Thapa, sustained injuries to both hands, legs, and face.

Police said Jamuna Thapa had suffered serious head injuries and died during treatment at New Medical College in Bharatpur.

The tipper truck involved in the accident and its driver, 32-year-old Sunil Mahato of Shashinagar, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-18, have been taken into police custody. 

Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
