By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 21: The Nepali version of the dance competition World of Dance Nepal 2026 was officially announced during a programme held in Kathmandu on Sunday.
The second edition of the competition was launched at a special press conference, where the panel of judges, prize money, and audition dates were revealed.Originally launched in Southern California in 2008 and now expanded to over 50 countries, the platform aims to introduce Nepali talent to the global stage by bringing the competition to Nepal.
At the press conference, the programme’s trailer was screened. As the main highlight of the event, renowned Bollywood choreographer and contemporary dance icon Terence Lewis was announced as the ‘Celebrity Grand Judge’, accompanied by the presentation of his introductory video.
Terence Lewis is widely known as a prominent judge on major Indian reality shows such as Dance India Dance and India's Best Dancer. Alongside Grand Judge Terence Lewis, the judging panel will include Nepal’s ‘Wild Ripperz Crew’ member Kiran Thapa and the Artistic Director of World of Dance Nepal, JD Tamang.
Speaking at the programme, National Director Roshan Gahatraj said that the show was brought to Nepal with the vision of creating an international-level platform where Nepali dancers could showcase their talent.
During the event, the trophy to be awarded to the winners was also unveiled. Judge Kiran Thapa shared that it is plated with 24-carat gold.
The competition has been divided into four main divisions. Winners from each division will receive a cash prize of Rs. 100,000, a 24-carat gold-plated trophy, and various gift hampers.
In addition, awards and gift hampers will be presented in categories such as Best Costume, Best Concept, and Audience Choice.
Auditions will be conducted in five different cities. According to the announced schedule, auditions will take place in Nepalgunj on May 2, Butwal on May 5, Pokhara on May 9, Kathmandu on May 13, and Itahari on May 15. The competitive semi-finals will be held on June 3, followed by the grand finale on June 5.
