Rs. 22 million contraband seized in Nawalpur

By Gyanu Pangeni,Madhyabindu, Apr. 18: The District Police Office, Nawalpur, has seized goods worth Rs. 2.77 million that had allegedly been smuggled, evading customs and revenue within one month.

According to District Police Office records, various items, including clothing and mobile phone displays, that had been brought into the district by evading customs and tax duties, were confiscated from different locations between mid-March and mid-April.

District Police Office Nawalpur Chief Superintendent of Police, Yuva Raj Khadka, said that all seized goods have been processed as required. Items related to customs evasion have been sent to the Triveni Customs Office for further action, while revenue-evaded goods have been forwarded to the Revenue Office in Butwal for necessary legal proceedings.

The district police have been conducting regular checks in the Jyamire area of Dumkibas and the Chalis Kilo forest area of Kawasoti. During these inspections, smuggled goods are frequently recovered. Khadka added that in some cases, motorcycles and bicycles have also been used for transporting such goods.

He further stated that items brought evading customs from border points such as Triveni, Maheshpur, Jholanipur, and Lakshmipura in West Nawalparasi are being transported through Nawalpur to other districts.

In addition, during the same month, police seized 35 vehicles involved in the illegal extraction of natural resources in different parts of the district. A total fine of Rs 2,483,200 was collected from these vehicles, Superintendent Khadka said.

He added that vehicles involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of riverbed materials, soil, and other natural resources were taken under control and legal action was initiated.
