By Siraj Khan,Nepalgunj, Mar. 29: Jyoti Sports Academy have won the Mayor’s Cup (Men’s) T20 cricket tournament held in Nepalgunj. In a thrilling and closely contested final, the academy defeated Nepalgunj Champs by three runs in the last over to claim the title.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Jyoti Sports Academy scored 128 all out in their allotted 20 overs. Shubhendu Pandey contributed 36 runs, Ajay Sahni added 34, and Abhineesh Shah made 22. Nepalgunj Champs’ bowlers applied pressure from the outset and prevented the opposition from posting a larger total.
Chasing a target of 129, Nepalgunj Champs made a strong start but were restricted to 126 runs, losing wickets at regular intervals. Samsudin Ansari played an impressive innings of 73 runs, but was unable to guide his team to victory.
The outcome remained uncertain until the final over. Despite a determined effort, Nepalgunj Champs finished on 126 for eight in 20 overs, falling short by three runs.
Jyoti Sports Academy’s bowlers delivered an excellent performance at a crucial stage to turn the match in their favour. Ravish Verma was named Player of the Match for his outstanding display in the final.
