By Our Correspondent,Machhapuchhre, Feb.1: Gandaki Province clinched the men’s title at the 6th Tiger Cup Volleyball Tournament following their come back win over Nepal Police Club in the final held at Pokhara Stadium’s volleyball court.
This is the Gandaki’s third title at the Tiger Cup while Police has been denied thrice in the final.
Having lost the opening set to Police 23-15, they staged a comeback to secure victory by claiming the three sets in a row. After narrowly clinching the second set by 28-26, Gandaki dominated the remaining set of the match by 25-22 and 25-17 score.
With the title victory, Gandaki received the trophy along with a cash prize of Rs. 666,666, while Runners up Police satisfied with Rs 366,666.
Parbat Volleyball Association claimed the third place by defeating Tribhuvan Army Club in straight sets of 25-19, 29-27, 25-13. Parbat took home Rs. 266,666 after finishing second runners up.
This was Parbat’s debut appearance in the Tiger Cup.
Mustafa Khan of Gandaki was declared the best player of the tournament, receiving Rs. 26,666.
Gandaki’s Adnan Khan (server), Bhim Bahadur Gaha (libero), Balram Gurung (setter), Fahad Raj (blocker), Fakhar Wattu (spiker), and coach Ramesh KC were all recognised outstanding in their respective positions. Each of them was awarded NPR 11,111.
In the women’s final held on Friday, Tip Top New Diamond Youth Sports Club secured their first Tiger Cup title by beating Police in straight three sets.
Organised by Tiger Group of Pokhara Nepal, the championship began on 23 January and featured six teams in the men’s category and five in the women’s section.
