28 polling stations in Taplejung highly sensitive

By Chandra Pandak, Taplejung, Jan 6: Authorities have listed twenty-eight polling stations in Taplejung as highly sensitive for the House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5.

Out of the total 80 polling stations in the district, officials have placed 28 stations under the highly sensitive category.

Chair of the District Security Committee and Chief District Officer Shivaraj Sedhain said the district has determined 80 polling stations and 127 polling centres. Based on ground conditions and security sensitivity, officials classified 28 of the 80 polling stations as highly sensitive, Sedhain said.

CDO Sedhain said authorities have categorized the remaining 25 polling stations as sensitive while 27 fall under the normal category.

During the 2022 HoR and Provincial Assembly elections, Taplejung had 75 polling stations. The District Election Office, Taplejung, said the number has increased to 80 this time with the addition of five new stations. The office added that the number of polling centres has also risen to 127.

Information Officer at the District Election Office, Bandavaraj Dulal (Bipin), said the number of voters in district has increased to 90,327 for the upcoming election.

Of the total voters, 48,285 are men and 42,042 are women, Dulal said. Taplejung had 88,285 voters during the 2022 HoR and Provincial Assembly elections. The district has added 2,042 new voters for the election scheduled for February 21.
