Kathmandu, Dec 29: Chairman of Nepal Bankers' Association, Santosh Koirala, has said it was worrying to see the attacks on financial and banking institutes for the political interests.
During a programme organized by the Society of Economic Journalists, Nepal (SEJON) on 'banking sector and way forward' in the federal capital, Kathmandu, today, Koirala viewed, financial and banking sector was facing challenges after the intimidation on bank employees over loan issues. "The issues of loan giving and taking are clearly mentioned in the law, but the bank employees are attacked over it," he reminded.
He complained that some persons were falsely assuring of loan exemption. It is quite misleading, Koirala added. "Banking sector is transparent than other sectors. If banking sector faces problems, it also creates ripple effects" he argued.
According to him, FBIs have created jobs for over 50,000 persons. He shared that although there was adequate liquidity in banking sector, demand was declining.
Noted economist Dr Rewat Bahadur Karki viewed there was more regulation by Nepal Rastra Bank. NRB's regulation should be liberal, according to him. (RSS)
