By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Dec 25: Religious leaders have said that the good values found in religion help parents learn and adopt proper parenting practices.
Speaking at an interaction programme organised by National Inter- Religious Network (NIRN) on positive parenting and mental health for children, religious leaders from various faiths stated that their role is important in creating an environment that supports children’s emotional development, mental health, resilience, motivation, and happiness.
At the programme, Chairperson of NIRN Nepal, Isu Jung Karki, said that parents should communicate hope to their children and guide them in the right direction through motivation.
Psychiatrist and researcher Dr Jasmin Maale said that parents themselves should practice good and positive behaviour and teach children by setting an example.
Senior Administrative Chief of the National Health Education, Information and Communication Centre, Shila Shrestha, said that their institution has been running a campaign encouraging people to open up and talk about what is in their hearts for the well-being of children.
Chief of CIN, Deepak Acharya, said that the media is also playing a special role in promoting mental health.
The programme was attended by Chairperson of the Interfaith Council Damodar Gautam, human rights activist Shobhakar Budhathoki, senior journalist Tirtha Koirala, representatives of the National Adolescent Girls’ Network, Chairperson of the Muslim Commission Mohammad Mudhdani, Deputy Secretary of the National Women Commission Sita Adhikari, Vice-Chairperson of the National Child Council Bam Baniya, among others.
