Kathmandu, Oct. 29: Singer Gyanu Rana will feature in Paleti on last Friday of October.
Nepalaya has been hosting Paleti on the last Friday of every month.
According to a press statement issued by Nepalaya, the organiser, this edition of Paleti will also pay tribute to the legendary folk artist Dharmaraj Thapa.
Gyanu Rana said that it was her father’s inspiration that led her into singing. She will also be joined on stage by her son, Bikash Jung Rana, who will perform some of Dharmaraj Thapa’s most popular songs.
Gyanu Rana has sung countless songs that have reached the height of popularity. Although she is primarily known for her folk singing, her modern, ghazal, and devotional songs have also been equally admired.
Her duets with the late legendary singer Narayan Gopal, such as ‘Manchheko Maya Yaya’ and ‘Sirima Siri Ni Kanchha’, remain among the most loved Nepali songs even today.
Likewise, the classic Tamang Selo ‘Chyangba Hoe Chyangba’, composed by Gopal Yonjan, continues to be popular even among the younger generation.
In addition to Narayan Gopal and Gopal Yonjan, singer Rana has performed with numerous other folk singers. In this Paleti event, she will be accompanied by singer Rupak Chaudhary in several duets.
According to Paleti coordinator Aabhas, this edition will evoke the golden era of Nepali music.
The organiser informed that around a dozen and a half songs will be performed, including beloved classics such as “Chautarima Mai Base Hola Ki”, “Bhijyo Timro Rato Pachhyauri”, “Aaja Madal Bajeko Kin”, “Sainli Rimai Chaunri Gai”, and “Hariyo Dandamathi”.
Rana, who has been preparing for the Paleti event since before Dashain, appears very excited.
Reflecting emotionally on her musical journey, she said, “I started singing when I was 14. I still remember my father holding my hand and taking me to Radio Nepal, it feels like just yesterday. Time has flown by.” She added, “I have sung many songs and received immense love from listeners and audience. As long as my voice supports me, I will keep singing. I am sure the Paleti audience will shower their love once again,” according to the press release.
Paleti began 20 years ago as a musical event series. This year, it will take place on October 31 and 1 November.
