Fort Worth City, Texas recognizes celebration of Dipawali-Tihar as a festival of light

By Shankhar Thapa, Taxes (United States), Oct 22: Forth Worth City of Texas has recognized the second main festival of Nepali-Depawali as a festival of light.  

The meeting of Fort Worth City Council held on Tuesday declared the depawali festival to be recognized as special cultural celebration. 

The city council informed that depawali festival will be celebrated as a cultural celebration of Forth Worth City each year.  

City Councilmember, District-5, Deborah peoples presented the proposal to regard celebration of depawali as a cultural diversity.  

In this occasion, peoples felicitated Building Standard Commissioner Mohan Gyawali with a certificate of honor upon the recognition of dipawali as a festival. 

Mayor of Forth Worth, Mattie Parker said that Dipawali festival has been formally recognized as an important in the prospective of religion, history and culture.  

He also mentioned that Fort Worth is an example for its prominence in diversity, cultural prosperity there has been a special contribution of Nepali community.

Speaking on behalf of Nepali community Gyawali has expressed gratitude for the administration of the city and said that it is a matter of pride for Nepali community to recognize cultural festival of Nepali by the City of Fort Worth. 

In the programme, the General Manager of Gorkhapatra Sansthan Lal Bahadur Airi, Chairperson of Nepali Community, Texas Rajendra Wagle, President of Nepal America Journalists Association Suraj Bhandari were presented.
