More 192 inmates stopped from escaping from District Prison in Saptari, two died in clash in Ramechhap

Kathmandu, Sept 11: An attempt by inmates to escape from the District Prison in Saptari was thwarted following the deployment of the Nepali Army and other security agencies.  

They numbered 192 and the NA operation took place in between 6:00 pm of Wednesday, September 10 to 6:00 am today, according to a statement issued by the Nepali Army.

Similarly, in Chandani, Kanchanpur, India’s Seema Suraksha Bal (Border Security Force) apprehended seven inmates attempting to cross into Indian territory. They were subsequently handed over to the Nepali Army.

In a separate incident, one inmate was apprehended by local residents and handed over to the Area Police Office, while 12 others voluntarily returned to the prison.

In Ramechhap, a clash erupted after inmates demanded to be released from confinement. The army opened fire to control the situation, resulting in injuries to 12 inmates and the deaths of two.

Additionally, the Nepali Army safely disposed of a suspicious object found in Naya Basti, Ward No. 9 of Banepa, Kavrepalanchok. So far, a total of 94 firearms of various types have been recovered, according to the NA.

Meanwhile, the Army has this morning taken into custody 35 prisoners among those who escaped from various prisons in the capital city. They were taken under control from Gajuri in Dhading. (RSS)
