Kathmandu, Sept 4: President Ramchandra Paudel has said critical awareness will enable and prosper democracy.

In his address to the 'Rajeswor Nepali Felicitation Book launching ceremony organized here today by the Rabindra Shah Memorial Foundation to mark the 83rd birth anniversary of Rajeswor Nepali, President Paudel said democracy should not only be viewed as the best forms of the modern governance system but also needs to be taken as an opportunity to transform the country by internalizing as a lifestyle.

President Paudel further emphasized the efforts from all sides to realize the epochal responsibility to build the nation committed to socialism based on the democratic norms and values by rekindling hope and optimism among the people.

Describing democracy and journalism as synonymous, the President stated that professional journalism contributes to strengthening democracy, while journalism can fulfill its professional responsibilities only within a democratic system.

"Because of this," the President said, "the relationship between democracy and journalism is inseparable. It must be further strengthened by dedicating both politics and journalism to socio-economic transformation and the improvement of people's daily lives."

The President added that he knew Rajeshwor Nepali as a true and dedicated democratic fighter and a nationalist. He described Nepali’s fearless journalism, simple lifestyle, and high thinking as an inspiration for societal transformation.

According to the President, Nepali made no compromises in upholding his identity as a press and democratic fighter, and as a poet. His contributions went beyond the promotion of language, literature, and culture, he was equally devoted to democratic norms, values, and ideology.(RSS)
