3 missing with father and son of Salyan due to landslides in India's Rudraprayag

By Prateek Ichchhuk Sharma, Salyan, Sept.3: Three people from Salyan have gone missing after a flash flood and landslide hit Chenagad in East Bagar of Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, India, district on wee hours of August 29.

The missing persons have been identified as 49-year-old Sharad Agri of Kalagaon, Bangad Kupinde Municipality -6, his 24-year-old son Deepak Agri, and 69-year-old Bhim Bahadur Buda of Rauche, Bangad Kupinde Municipality-5 of Salyan district.

According to the ward chair of Banagad Kupinde Municipality-6, Ganesh BC, they had left for India from Salyan on August 1 in search of employment.

"We received the news of the disappearance through the family. It is reported that the landslide that occurred around 3 to 4 AM buried the settlement while they were sleeping," said Ward Chairperson BC.

At least eight people, including four Nepali and four Indians, have been confirmed missing in the landslide. 

The identity of another Nepali from Jumla among the missing has not been revealed.

Suresh Buda, son of the missing Bhim Bahadur Budaa, also said that the search operation has been difficult. 

According to him, the village is located in a remote and difficult location, which is why the search is facing problems.

It is said that after four days of no contact, the family has begun preparing for a funeral.

Indian media reported that floods and landslides following incessant rains on the night of August 28 have caused extensive damage to Chenagad in East Bagar of Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, India, district.

The flash floods that hit the area on the morning of August 29  have washed away more than 15 houses and shops.
